I don’t want to jinx anything but I think spring is finally here. The regular barn swallow inhabitants have checked into their rooms in the barn and most nights stay in the low 50s. Time to really dig into the garden and wage war on weeds next to my tomato plants.
Monday kicked off for the adult sheep with a nice shearing session from Southern Grit Shearing Services. What would have taken us days to shear took them about an hour with setup, chatting, feeding peanuts to the ladies and actually shearing. With their baggage dropped off, the woollies look like awkward teenagers without all the drama. What a relief to have that task checked off the list!
Donuts did not want to be outdone by the sheep so he made a trip to Nansemond Veterinary Clinic for a sprained ankle. At the vet’s office, he laid in the lap of all who would let him as long as they ran their fingers through his luxurious locks. Last summer he weighed 115 lbs. and this time, he weighed in at 121 lbs. He enjoyed the car ride but was very happy to be back in the field with his charges.
We managed to get the weed block off of one of the squares in the potager garden. We piled the mulch high and plan to plant this square within the week.
